The summer may be dull, but the Big Life Roster is on fire!
There's no rest for the wicked as they say, so there's no surprise the Big Life roster are busy. 2008 has seen the team working on great new acts and some hugely successful artists including The Futureheads, Hadouken, The Infadels, and Weezer, with new music from Bloc Party, The Delays, The Twang, Oasis, Reverend And The Makers, Primal Scream, Snow Patrol, The Music, amongst a host of others, to drop later this year.

A huge congratulations to Big Life's own Tim Bran for his production and mix work on the brilliant new album by the Verve. Called "Forth", the album thumped straight into the Number 1 slot on the UK National Album charts and has been hailed as a stunning return to form for one of Britain's most important bands. Tim is currently producing the debut album for Raygun & The Adjitators.

New boy on the roster Sie Medway-Smith has got off to a flying start since he joined the team. In July he began work with DJ Ironik who's riding high in the charts with the monster hit "Stay With Me". Sie is now producing and mixing 5 tracks on Ironik's debut album due for release in the autumn. Sie is then due to begin work on new material for Princess Superstar.

The double Grammy award winning Jacknife Lee continues to show why he is now one of the most accomplished and highly sought after producers in the world! In 2008 he has not only produced new material for Bloc Party's next album, including darkly brilliant first single "Mercury" but has recently finished producing and mixing the hugely anticiptaed new album for Snow Patrol. This year he also produced singles for Hadouken and recently for Weezer, including their huge American hit "Pork and Beans". So successful has his work with Weezer been that he is due to return to the States later in the year to produce their next reord.

Youth is as busy and prolific as ever. He produced an astonishing 11 albums in 2007 and found time to score and produce a couple of film soundtracks. He also co wrote with numerous domestic and international artists and spent time running his dance and folk labels. A definite highlight of 2007 was producing the new Futureheads album, "This Is Not The World", and the new The Infadels album "Universe In Reverse". Both these albums have spawned successful singles with significant radio play. In 2008 Youth produced and mixed a Fireman album with longtime collaborator, Sir Paul MacCartney, produced singles for Primal Scream, recorded new material with The Twang at his beautiful Spanish studio in Granada, and is currently producing the next album for South Africa's most successful indie star Arno Carstens .

2007 certainly established Jagz Kooner as one of the most exciting producers around. His production work for Reverend And The Makers saw the band achieve top ten singles sales and gold album sales for "The State Of Things". 2008 sees him back in the studio with the Revs hard at work on the follow up. Jagz has recently remixed the first two singles for Oasis and has also in 2008 added his particular production genius to various tracks on the new Primal Screamalbum and begun working with the electro pop band Mancini on their debut album.

Nick Franglen spent much of 2007 concentrating on writing and performing new material for Blacksand, a deeply moving and experimental voyage into sound that has captivated those lucky enough to see it performed live. The classically trained musician, who as half of techno pioneers Lemon Jelly, has sold over half a million albums worldwide. Nick did manage to step away from his own music making to produce the debut EP from Captive State. The resulting "Elmore Grove" is just beautiful and first single to be lifted from the EP, "Mona" has recenty been a Radio 2 'Record Of the Week'. Check it out immediately!

Big Life began work with Rick McNamara in 2007 and already he has established himself as a producer of merit. Rick made his name as co-writer and guitarist of seminal English indie band Embrace. Not only did the band release three UK Number 1 LPs over the course of their career, but they built up an enormous legion of fans all over the world by constant touring. Rick cut his teeth as a producer by producing most of the band's b-sides and live releases and in addition has built a beautiful, state of the art recording complex in Halifax, where he has continued to hone his craft. In 2007, Rick produced and mixed tracks for Operahouse, The AdsThomas Tantrum and by 2008 has added The MusicMemyhead, The Daisy Riots and Kicks to his production bed post. Rick has just completed producing the debut album for Operahouse.

Andy Gill had a great 2007. The highlight for him was being nominated alongside The Young Knives for the 2007 Mercury Music Prize for their album "Voices Of Animals And Men". Andy produced and mixed the album in his London studios in 2005 and it contains the hit singles "Here Comes The Rumour Mill" and "The Decision". In 2008 Andy produced and mixed the debut album for Spanish electro rockers We Are Standard and is currently hard at work in Newcastle producing the new Therapy album.

In 2008 The Freelance Hellraiser teamed up with Anu Pillai of Freeform 5 fame, to form a production duo under the moniker of Kid Gloves. They have been busy writing and producing Universal's Ladyhawke and the resulting single "Paris Is Burning" is a perfect disco summer hit. The pair have also been writing and producing for a host of new and quirky pop acts including the much hyped The Clik Clik and Little Boots and completed remixes for , The Verve, Santogold and Roisin Murphy. 2008 has also seen The Freelance producing music for the lastest Bacardi campaign and now he is busy working with Nokia for their next global campaign.

Gareth Parton worked on some truly exciting new talent throughout 2007. Not only did he complete co-producing and mixing the hugely anticipated follow up for the Mercury nominated The Go! Team, but also produced albums for Pete And The Pirates and Neil's Children amongst others. A highlight of last year was producing and mixing singles for Foals which you can check out on their massively succesful debut album "Antidotes". In 2008 Gareth has produced singles for The Yelps, The Go Team, Liquid Architecture, and Dutch Uncle and has recently completed producing albums for Tom Allalone and Koogaphone. Gareth is currently in the studio with Cassie & The Cassettes.

In 2008 Clive Goddard continues to work alongside Youth as his engineer and mixing partner, so like Youth, he last year had the privilege to record and mix music for Paul MacCartney, The Delaysand The Like. His mixes on The Futureheads new album and especially first single, "The Beginning Of The Twist" has shown why he is one of the most respected mix engineers in the UK. He is currently mixing the new Performance album before beginning to mix French artist Daddy Longlegs.

Jon Gray is one of the most highly sought after engineers in the UK. In 2007 he recorded the Editors LP for Jacknife Lee and the Reverend And The Makers album for Jagz Kooner. Having mixed hits by The Coral, The Zutons and The Subways in the past, in 2007, he also mixed the latest Milburn LP. In 2008 he mixed an exciting act called Dirty Stop Out produced by the legendary Mick Jones, tracks by The Subways, The Rifles and just recently Yes Cassette.
He has also been consolidating his reputation as a producer by producing new material for Milk Teeth and will shortly begin producing the debut album for The Grams.

Thanks to all the bands we worked with over the last few years that have made it such a creative and inspiring year for the Big Life team.
